As long as the President is a strong leader and doesn't tell ME or anyone else what religion is a GOOD one or not, I have no problems with whatever regligion he/she might have.

I don't care what faith is the next president, as long as he/she does not discriminate my faith.

For politics to stay politics, religious beliefs should stay out of it. If the person is truly for the food of all the people, his or her personal beliefs should stay out of it. He or she should address the moral character of the country..which is in bad shape at best...and getting worse.

As an agnostic, It's a rarity that I'm ever presented with a chance to vote someone of my faith. I do vote, however, and so I frequently vote for Christians and other non-agnostics. I don't honestly see any place for faith in politics, and I vote completely based on the policies of the candidates or the laws being voted for, and I fail to see how faith factors into that.

It should be a factor at all in politics. I don't belong to any organized religion so no president has shared my beliefs. We have a holy roller who claims to be a christian who has done nothing christian like at all for the last seven years.

I am not religious, so I always have to vote for someone who does not share my beliefs. Not too many agnostic candidates these days.

Politicians talking about faith makes me uncomfortable because I see much of it as either insincere or, more often, just irrational. But apparently you can't get elected unless you tell people that God loves America most, and if bad things happen it's either because we irritated him with gay parades or because he 'has a plan'. Either way, our problems are our fault or God's whim, but never the fault of our elected leaders (unless they marched in the gay parade).

Religion isn't a big deal for me. Ideas do mean things however and some religious communities espouse ideals with which I cannot agree. So while I don't look at religion of a candidate when I vote, his or her views may be colored by religion. ON the other hand, I don't like fake religionists who use churches as backdrops. I also dislike politicians who claim moral superiority while doing the same thing the others are doing.

I'd vote for a President regardless of religious believes as long as he/she doesn't base her politics/decisions on the Bible, maintains separation of church and state, doesn't mention God more than once a month, doesn't push his/her religion down my throat and sends the Christian Right on a walking/swimming pilmigrage around the World to spread the word of their Savior and to keep "doing onto others as they would never do unto themselves" AMEN

I have no choice if I wish to vote. I do not think there is a God, which disagrees with most politicians that makes their beliefs known. It really should not come down to if a candidate beliefs in a god of any religion, or not.

Perhaps, that is why I did not know what the big fuss was about when there was rumors that Obama was a Muslim. Nor did I really care one way, or the other.

Concern for humanity and the intelligence to guide a large and diverse nation are the only criteria I seek. The past pandering to the religious zealotry, still abundant in our nation, has had no discernible benefits for our citizens ... it only stokes the fires of division and hate. Separation of church and state is just as important now as it was when our forefathers designed the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights.

Those who want to oppose Obama because he's a member of the wrong party or the wrong race are trying to find convenient rationalizations in religion. Obama's personal history is much more in keeping with Christian doctrine than is MCCain's. Unfortunately, many of the so-called Christian leaders are more faithful to the Republican party than to Whom they profess to love.

You may, Suilenroc. Mr. Obama sat in a church who's pastor was raciest yes raciest and anti American and he said NOTHING to condemn these remarks until they made the news. Not very COMMITTED! Mr. Obama with reluctance then LATER with clarity condemned the comments only when they came to the attention of the voters and his media. A COMMITTED christian immediately and with clarity speaks out! Mr. Obama came to power through the Chicago union movement SERVING the unions agenda not his country's. He has NEVER served in the military not that this is a requirement but he only served those who would bring him to power. Not all unions are bad but they do strongly and with intimidation of maintaining your lively hood suggest to the members for whom to vote for (now being condemned by the party regarding wall-mart) this makes him a hypocrite as well, not foreign to most POLITICIANS. What about Airs the terrorist who killed Americans? When did he stand up to this guy? And not just when it was brought to the attention of the media. When? And no I'm not a committed leftist just disappointed. Not to mention his resume is very thin to be the commander and chief don't you think?

I would prefer a non-faith-based individual, but, considering the money being made by the business of religion, I doubt that will happen soon.

Only followers have the identical beliefs as any religion. I want a president that is a leader, not a follower and someone that thinks on his own.
Besides religion and morality are not the same thing.

As it clearly states in Article 6 of the US Constitution, "...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." Any time you force candidates to state their religious beliefs, you are trampling on the Constitution. But then again, that particular exercise has never seemed to bother the Republican party or its followers.

I don't think people are being honest about this question as evidenced by peoples reaction to the lie about Obama being a muslim.
