Here is the media trying to make politics as normal. Attack the side that is coming on strong. Especially when Obama doesn't not seem to have anything positive to offer other than he is NOT BUSH.
Ward, you haven't been listening. He has made a lot of statements with regard to his stand on the economy, the war, education etc. Listen to them and you'll see that Obama makes one heck of a lot of sense.
McCain has shown by continually attacking Obama with negative ads that he has nothing positive to say. When he is pressed on an issue he changes the subject to talk about his military experience. I respect John McCain's Military service, but it shouldn't be his answer to every question he doesn't want to/can't answer (like how many houses you own). If you really support the troops than isn't it your civic duty to vote for someone who will not just give them lip service, but will actually help them when they get back. Barack Obama is supported by every major veteran's organization, and McCain has a failing record as given by the DAV and other organizations. Earlier this year John McCain voted against increased funding for veterans to go to college. Now tell, me who supports our troops?
Barack has consistently supported a phased withdraw of troops in Iraq with the goal being 16 months, depending on conditions on the ground. This is a plan that has been pretty much supported by the maliki government. If the Iraqis want to start taking back control of the country and start using some of their multi-billion dollar surplus I say why argue. It's much better than having us struggling American taxpayers foot the bill. Guess who else starting to warm up to the idea of a phased withdraw...everyone's favorite president. John McCain wants us to stay in Iraq for 100 years, and while we're at it let's bomb bomb Iran. If you're for a stronger national security, don't you think it would be a good idea not have all of our troops, lots and lots of our hard earned money stuck in a place we it shouldn't be/should never have been. If a serious international event happened tomorrow we would be helpless. What about national disasters? much of our national guard is in Iraq. Are we going to just continue to tell those unfortunate Americans to deal with it Hurricane Katrina-style.
John McCain has said on tape he has very little experience with the economy (but he was a POW). He has a Plan to extend George Bush's Tax cut's for the wealthiest in American, which chances are doesn't include me or you or a vast majority of Americans who could so desperately need it right now. Obama's Plan will Give a tax cut for working class Americans those making under $250,000, that's most of us. John McCain's health care plan (in true grandpa form "here's ten buck don't spend it all in one place") won't provide health care to the millions upon millions of uninsured. Barack Obam's plan will give health care to anyone who needs it or wants it. The number one reason people go bankrupt in this country is because they get sick or hurt. EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO TO THE DOCTORS WHEN THEY NEED IT, and they shouldn't loose their house in the process.
To solve our energy problem John McCain wants to focus on offshore drilling. Understandably so, a lot of Americans favor this plan, I hate spending $80 + a week to fill up the tank. But what we need to realize is that if we drill today we won't see any benefit from it today, we won't see any benefit for ten years, and even then it'll only be 2 cents. Offshore drilling is a gimmick like John McCain's gas tax holiday was. There is only so much oil in the ground. As the supply goes down the price goes up. We've already used more than half the oil that ever existed and what's left is going to be harder/more expensive to extract. We need to have a little foresight and start switching to renewable resources. Barack Obama has a plan to take us off foreign oil and move towards renewable energy. It's like John F. Kennedy's plan to get us to the moon, a hard task that would That Americans can accomplish. We'll create massive amounts of jobs and improve our economy while we do it.
Finally, inflation is rising at it's fastest rate in 17 years, we have the biggest deficit ever, we've been stuck in a war that the President lied to get us into, unemployment is rising, American's paychecks are shrinking, we're struggling to pay for gas, food, house payments, health care, the bleak list goes on and on. Are you better off than you were 8 years ago? JOHN MCCAIN VOTED FOR PRESIDENT BUSH 95% OF THE TIME LAST YEAR AND 90% OF THE TIME IN THE LAST 8 YEARS. "Obama doesn't seem to have anything positive to offer other than he is NOT BUSH." John McCain doesn't have anything positive to offer and he can't even say he's not Bush.
I know this is long and most won't read it, it would be nice if more of us would become educated on the issue. I'm tired of hearing people say things like "Obama don't stand fer nuttin'" or that John McCain's millitary service gives him a free ride

Thank you for saying what I have been saying for the last year and a half!!! Pay attention People, this is our country we are talking about!!!
Please no more personal attacks get down to business and address specific issues and how each candidate is planning on solving the problems
Unfortunately, most people only know what they see in those ads. If people would honestly educate themselves on the issues and candidates, they wouldn't be necessary. The republicans are running ads that are out and out lies and people believe that crap. Not to mention the smear email campaign that's been going on for a year now. The dems need to meet the people where they are. In attacking McCain, they should keep it to the facts based on his voting record and what he has said while campaigning. Its not like there isn't enough out there just from the last few months.
McCain claims to support the military--just those who will stay in forever--but votes against raising benefits for those returning home. He doesn't want them to have it too good or we won't be able to keep all the wars going. He agrees with the statement that to follow bin laden to the gates of hell will require a draft. He's changed positions on so many issues during the primaries alone. Go back and listen to the debates--immigration, time tables, Iraq, Iran.....it goes on and on and on.
Obama needs to let others do it for him and keep his ads on positive areas with his policies. We can't afford to have this country swift boated again!
Immigration? I don't think I have heard the democrats even talk about the immigration issue in any of their debates. The question is never asked, how convenient. Our country's immigration problem is directly linked to the failings in health-care and education. Obama wants to CHANGE both but won't address the problem that is causing it. Take a close look at what is going on in California. Hospitals are going bankrupt and schools can't be built fast enough to keep up with the growing population. If the issue isn't addressed every state in the nation will suffer the same fate.
Immigration was talked about in the democratic debates. Remember the big hubbub where Hillary said she would give driver's licences to illegals and then changed? Both current candidates support this. Even though I think illegals shouldn't be given the same rights as citizens, we have to start by identifying them and at the very least get them in jobs where they are paying taxes to help support all of the extra costs associated with the problems you mentioned (schools, hospitals, ect.) McCain actually supported the amnesty bill before he started to climb in the Republican primary. Both candidates have similar records on this issue.
Obama team....drop the kitchen sink on mcspin. Republicans bloggers herein and in the news are playing a clever game, - blaming Obama for engaging in same kind of politics each time he respond to attacks. Obama team, - stop playing defense and go on offensive: plaster TV screens with pictures of mcsame with Bush, show mcsame's opposition to Veteran's bills, his gaffe's in Iraq, his Viagra caught in the headlight deer moment on CNN. I guess the Viagra moment will spur the so-called PUMAS to think twice. Also there is nothing like PUMAS, - these are republican bloggers pretending to be Hillary supporters.
Attack an American war hero? Mr Obama has NO right to attack Mr McCain on ANYthing to do with military matters. He furthermore is UNQUALIFIED to be the President of the United States as he has ZERO military experience and the job description CLEARLY STATES Commander -in - Chief of the country's armed forces! Dear fellow citizens who are Democrats, If you want your party to be in control of the White House perhaps next time you could come up with at least ONE candidate who is at least qualified on a tertiary level
Are you serious? You are saying that McCain is hands off because he was a POW? You are also saying that no one that did not serve in the military can not be President? Please read your history before making comments. There are alot of great heros that are currently serving the military and that have served in the military. Being a POW does not automatically qualify you as being a person that should be President nor does it qualify him to not be called on his record and comments. Serving in the military also does not automatically qualify you as being president and those who did not serve are not worthy.
Well im gonna do it. He did not fight for veterans and their benefits then after the fact, wanted to take credit. He is agains Roe v Wade, trying to exploit the Georgia conflict, did not stand up for not torturing people as we have soldiers that are currently in a war zone, celebrated his birthday with George Bush while Katrina victims were dying and starving, does not know how many houses he has and wants to say it does not matter because he was a POW. Wants to damage social security, wants to pay to the upper class and does not want to raise minimum wage while Obama wants to. The list can go on and on. Please know your facts before you spout off comments about him being qualified STRICTLY because he was a POW. We have heard over and over and over that he is a POW. We appreciate his service but this is not an excuse for a free pass
Yeah, get real. McCain is whoring his POW experience. All of the military people I know think he is disgracing his service, servicemen and -women are supporting Obama 6:1...you have to ask whether McCain's experience will serve him or this country if he's elected president. McCain has abandoned veterans in his voting record, he continues to support a war that is benefiting the USA in no way, and he can't handle criticism of any kind without resorting to ad hominem attacks. He's nothing short of a petulant candidate who can't take the heat. If he had a leg to stand on regarding the issues, I suspect he would discuss those issues. Instead, he talks about 20 year old blond girls, as though there's any relationship between Paris Hilton and Barack Obama. They both use the internet, but the similarities end there. McCain, meanwhile, "is aware" of the internet. Consider that: John McCain doesn't know how to access this very discussion thread. Do you really want that finger on any button?
You have to be kidding me? If McCain wants to run on his war record then he better be ready to defend that war record. I personally do not give a damn that he was some prisoner of war. I want the guy who wasn't dumb enough to get his butt shot down in the first place. I want the guy who had enough common sense to say "NO, we don't need to fight this war". And that my friend is not John McCain. He is a war-monger and he will not be allowed to repeat the same old Bush policies. We are tired of living in the Bushes and it is time to come into the light, McCain will not and cannot lead us that way. Obama is the clear choice. Pay Attention people!!!!
SNAP ...Candace you go girl. I agree with you 100 %. I'm so sick of him using the POW story .
I hope the reporters grow some so that they can actually get passed this tiresome melodrama
and ask some serious questions.
as a spectator of american politics for the last couple of years, i can see why we have the reputation that we have as americans, in the eyes of the world.
whatever happened to fight the good clean fight?
why does it have to be taken to such levels?
all I heard from the media commentators yesterday after the first night of the convention was, why didn't the campaign come out swinging?
let me ask this? have we become a nation so indifferent and numb to everything around us that we no longer care about anything other than to obtain what we seek without regard to how we go about seeking it?
have we not had enough fighting amongst ourselves and around the world to stop for a while?
why are we always having to lay blows on others?
why can't we be civil? why can't we take a break from the usual agenda?
couldn't anyone see the the nice things that where being displayed to us by the Obama's? was there anyone listening?
shame on the media commentators. shame. you abuse your power to easily.
I don't think the Republicans have come up with a positive" feel good about McCain" ad. Is that because not even they can find anything positive about him? Any one who follows the issues sees who would best fit their needs. Throwing dirt at someone just shows that persons fear. McCain is scared and, I'm not a real Obama fan, but he doesn't need to be.
McCain is doing exactly what the Republicans have always done, blur the lines on the real issues. It is time to take off the gloves and beat them by focusing on the real issues and the real solutions.
There is nothing wrong with changing ones mind on issues as long as those changes come from a place of knowledge and not just to placate specific groups or interests as McCain and the current administration continue to do.
I've never understood the aversion to attack ads. Yes, I want to hear a candidate's views. I also want to hear why they believe that their opponent's views are not as good. I also want to hear why the candidate believes that they will be a better elected official, and why the candidate believes that their opponent will do a poor job.
Now, I don't mean smear ads such as, say, comparing a respected politician to a pop-singer to score a little free media. But attacks on the views and values of your opponent seem to me, not only fair game, but exactly the sort of information I want to know to be able to vote wisely. Why are your ideas better? Don't tell me how much you respect your opponent's views because, unless they have the same view that you do, there is a reason that you believe your opponent is wrong, and I'd like to hear your reasoning.
I say go after John MC POW. I say that MC Cain is a decrease to the vets by bringing up the POW thing every time he is ask something that he can not answer. Why has the media not show-en john MC Cain voting record 11 different times he has voted against the veterans how about his voting on women's rights this man and the people who are going to vote for him are so out of touch with real people. why are veterans donating $6.00 to $1.00 for Obama over MC Cain do you think they get it this vet does. could it be that the media will not bring these things up or out is because they do not want a Black person as are next president I,m just asking what other reason would they be so lazy as to not do their job. this country is in deep deep trouble look around we can keep on going another 4 to 8 years of the S O S or we can make a turn at the next corner and go a different direction there is no way Obama could do any worse of a job then Bush has done or that john MC POW will do. Obama 08
Jeff, while I agree with your opinions on Obama, you have to learn how to write an English sentence, man. No one has any idea what you're trying to say. Please return to school and take an English class. PULEESE....
McCain's resume according to me....Papa got him into the Naval Aademy, assured his graduation and acceptance into the Naval Aviation program. His "maverick" attitude is what landed him in Hanoi and he's suckled from the government teet since his return. His solution to Veterans Benefits is to marry a 5 million dollar a year heiress. What is the difference from "W". Daddy got him into Yale, Texas Air Guard, bought his presidency...Hope he's proud.!
I like to know if it's true about McCain being the 5th from the bottom of his class graduating from collage. Because if it is true someone needs to talk about it.
Hell Yeah it is true, but because his dumb ass got shot down in the Pre-Curser to the Iraqi war (never-ending) then it is off limits to talk about. Just like we cannot talk about him leaving his first wife for a rich b*tch. It is ridiculous.
It's time to tell McCain what happened 40yrs ago has nothing to do with today. The reason he was a POW is because he failed in his mission that day and got shot down. I doubt that he was told to take his multimillion $ plane out and get it shot down. While the troops on the ground were living in dirt bunkers, eating what ever happened to be in the box that day and not knowing if they would be attacked at night, McCain was on a carrier several hundered miles off shore in a warm room getting 3 hot means a day served to him and sleeping in a room where he knew he was safe. and only going onmto combat when the weather was good. War hero my ass.
You either like OHB's king of the world stance or you don't. Can't you all see what we have lost by smearing our leaders. How are we supposed to stand and fight for our Country when all the world sees is Americans attacking and trash talking other Americans? I love America. We must stop all this, not by voting for an international celebrity who trash talks about America, the very country that gave him the opportunity to run for President! VOTE MCCAIN BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST CHOICE AND HE ACTUALLY LIKES AMERICANS!
An interesting position, especially since I think that McCain, and most Republicans, say they love Americans, but they actually don't. They certainly don't vote like they care about us. John McCain like American business plenty, but what will his economic plan do for me and my $40,000/year? If only I were an oil company or a ten-home-owner...alas.
I think you are confused on who trashes who. Obama is the right choice.
Good Post and Amen! Negative campaigning is what a candidate does to lose my vote. They do this because they don't have a positive & concrete platform to run on. If they can't tell the American public what they CAN do for the country (not the usual generalizations), they resort to attacking their opponent in hopes of making him look so bad, the attacking candidate will win.
The Democrats should not only go strong at McCain, but they should go very strong at Cheney and strongly question the secret meetings he has been having with the oil companies. When Obama talks about change, I see it as change from the Bush and Cheney years of "with us or against us" policies that has destroyed our freedoms in the U.S. and has weakened our stature throughout the world. Both of them should be called into question and McCain's voting record should be displayed so it shows the world how he has strongly supported flawed leadership.

ALL the Democratic Leadership, I mean ALL the Leadership, need to call out McCain strongly as a flawed politician who will grovel at any level to get a vote. There is no time to try to play this game softly, it is serious business which requires serious offensive leadership, not defensive.
Hit the POW hard. If he can withstand the Commie Chinese, Vitnamesse and USSR torture, he can take a couple of hard shots from the Chicago south side radicals!!!!
Hit and hit him hard!!
Put the miserable chucklehead out on the street where he belongs.
This Country has a serious problem and we will find out how serious, if it elects a 72YR. old JOHN MCCAIN with Melanoma Cancer over a young, healty, very smart, very educated BARAK OBAMA.I have just one question is this country RED,WHITE,and BLUE, or are we still BLACK,and WHITE????????????????????????????????????I guess we'll find out come ELECTION DAY............................
I am a Christian and I am proud to say that I am. When I see people exploiting Christianity to get someones vote it makes me angry. I watched the faith discussion. I looked at each of them based on the word of God. To be honest with you, I did not have a desire to vote for Obama or McCain. I was looking for the individual that represented me! I don't make 150,000 nor do I make 250, 000. In fact, my salary is probably 10% of one of these incomes. When I here big numbers thrown around like these, it makes me question, "where do I stand". There are so many more people like myself in the world that feel that no one hears us or understands our pain. It is hard to have to feed your family rice and bread every day. It is hard to have to consistently look for work and can't get help because of your past. It is hard to raise a child when you cannot afford to take care of yourself. Where are the people that will speak for me! I'M AM TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT THE WAR AND WHAT OTHER COUNTRIES ARE GOING THROUGH. WHAT ABOUT ME! I need help! My community needs rebuilding! People in my community need jobs, good education and an opportunity to achieve what they proudly flaunt on TV. What about us! Did we miss out on the American dream because you were so obsessed with greed that you decided to take it and lock it up in all of your big stocks, big house, fancy cars, and million dollars homes. Did you forget about the people that you could have helped make something of their lives. Why do you need all of these things? You can only live in one house. There are people in the United States living in homes infested with roaches and rats, and yet our congress, our presidents, our leaders, can't relate. This is the America that we know, this is the America that we see everyday. While you go to your gated communities and have security systems, and a police patrolling that says , we have to protect the wealthy. I feel for all of you. So many of them claim to be Christians, but have lost the true values of being Christ like. It is about caring, sharing, helping, building, lifting, inspiring all. But you don't hear me. The truth is you don't even care. But you know what, as I lay in my bed tonight, while my kids go hungry, and while I have to wonder if someone is going to hire me, I will pray for you. This is what real Christianity is. I speak for my community. God is good, put your trust in him and not man. Man don't always have all the answers my friends. This world is bigger than the egos and pride that flaunt themselves in the United States. God bless America and may God have mercy on us all!
I will like to ask you to go to www.lwf.org and listen to the different messages that are mentioned on leadership issues in America. It will really open your eyes to things around you.
Has the media forgotten as has the public McCain is a weakling- while other POW's were tortured and some died he was among those who spoke against the USA. He showed us all by his actions he could not take the pressure as a POW so what makes anyone believe he was a hero and that he can lead this country. The job of President requires strength of character and good decision making skills which McCain has demonstrated time and again he does not have. He was a coward compared to the thousands who lost their lives fighting on the ground while he sat on a carrier and flew 10,000 feet above the fray than when shot down (so we are told) he casts himself as a hero. His contempt for veterans who suffered more than he is evident in his voting record. He should be ashamed of himself for his actions and his cowardice.
His record on women's issues is another example of his weakness as he attempts to diminish a woman's right for equality while living comfortably off his wife's money and influence.
Here is what I don't understand. Experience vs inexperience. Which would you rather have Vinny Testaverde or Eli Manning as your quarterback? A hummm?
Of course Obama does not have as much experience as McCain. So what! McCain makes bad decisions Obama makes good decisions. So where is the logic. Is a doddering old fool who has a history of making bad decisions out weigh a young intelligent person who makes good decision?
Am I missing something, if not then why don't I hear that argument?
It's high time the ATTACK dogs point out that Wes Clark was correct in stating that a war hero doesn't necessarily qualify a person for POTUS or automatically give Foreign Policy clout. If Kerry's vet status was fodder.. no reason McCain's should be considered sacred
