I was extremely impressed with Senator Biden's demeanor and confidance and feel he is definately a man who is ready to take charge should the worst happen during an Obama Presidency.
While Joe created his case strongly it was full of inaccuracies and lies. John McCain did not vote against the troops, he supported Bosnia, Obama did say he would go to Iran wihtout preconditions - you on here that preach honesty - go to YouTube and watch Obama's speeches- go the record and check Biden's lies. A lie said with confidence is still a lie!! At least 10 FACTUAL lies in Bidens responses.
Foan, McCain voted against funding the troops when there was a time line for withdrawal. It's in the record. The fact that obama voted against funding when there was no time line makes this issue a wash. Most Americans, the free world, Iraqi's and the Iraqi leadership all support a time line. Nevertheless, if your candidate does succeed with this cynical claim that Obama is an unpatriotic black man who doesn't love America and would rather loose the war... then he will win this election... but at what cost to his own sense of integrity?
That is true, McCain said during the primaries, he will stay in Iraqi has long as it takes him. He was against a time line. Unfortunately, John McCain still didn't give the America how he is going to pay for the war in Iraqi. Remember it's costing you and me and every tax payer 10 billion dollars a month. We are borrowing this money from...China.
Biden was great last night. It's to be expected that both candiates will mess up on some of the facts, but Palin avoided answering the questions, pandered to America people with that cutesy, mugging, sarcasim with a wink. I don't care if she was folksy...she wasn't above the fray. Joe Biden was every bit VP material. At one point, Palin couldn't look at Biden until the end of the debate when he mentioned his loss of his wife and daughter in the car accident. I was touched by his comment when he said he was "a single parent."
Joe Biden was great.
What I don't get is why we just can't acknowledge and claim victory in Iraq because they do have a government, Sadaam is gone. I say we won - let's leave. The idea that the repubs are spouting is that dems are willing to lose and admit defeat - um.... we already won. Let our boys come home.
I keep hearing McCain and Palin talk about victory. Gen Petraus even said there is no clear definition of victory in Iraq it is just a slow transition of responsibilites and troop drawdowns.
joe lied several times what is wrong with you people your like zombies walking toward the "ONE"
Yeah... he was able to LIE with a straight face and with full confidence. He used 14 lies to defend himself and Sen. Obama's plan, record, and misleading about McCain's record. Yeah... quite impressive.
You go Joe! Thank you for a wonderful evening of facts, truth and hope!
I agree 100%. To say I am going to follow my own rules and not answer your questiions but ask my own and answer my own questions is a strategy of complete nonsense. The American people believe following the rules not making them up as you go along.
To think that she wants to increase the power of the VP even more than Cheney is chilling and the ice cold response to Joe Biden's discription of being a single dad and how he felt when he didn't know if his son would make it were appalling. It goes to character and she showed little. She now has to face the American people in the polls and on election day and it is a big rejection to her kind of an America.
It seem like I've seen the same exact thing before....oh yes that right.....it was Obama at the presidential debate.
I guess we did not watch the same debate. McCain came across angry and turse, he never looked at Senator Obama once and reiterated the lies his campaign has been spewing that have already been proven untruthful by the media. McCain showed the same lack of character and respect for his opponent that Gov. Palin showed for Senator Biden. The lack of maturity, leadership and respect between Senator McCain and Gov. Palin isn't enough to upstage an 8 year old child. For a man over 70 Senator McCain shows little of the maturity the average citizen his age projects and Gov. Palin still acts like she is in high school and running for class president (totally a popularity contest based on how cute your are and how funny you can be)................she is out of her league and Senator McCain seems to finally be understanding picking Gov. Palin was a gamble that did not pay off. If either Republican candidate were truly a patriot they would gracefully bow out of the race and stop wasting the time and money of the American people in this time of economic crisis, because it is obvious they do not take seriously the job for which they apply and it is abundantly clear most Americans are now painfully aware of this.
Hmm.... , What debate are you talking about? I watched the debate from last week, and Obama answered the questions a lot better than McCain. He adressed McCain directly and looked at him in the eyes. McCain refused to adress Obama and refused to look at him. He made unncessesary jokes about his old pen and his own age. Obama has class. Even in his commercials he rarely attacks McCain. He tells the American people what he plans to do, and sometimes points out the errors of McCain's plans. Who knows and understands me better? Hmm... Definately Obama. He has one house and one car to share with his wife. How can someone who has seven houses and eleven cars possibly understand me? Who is more qualified? Again Obama. He is intelligent and he will bring the change that we need. He graduated from Columbia University and Harvard Law school. He taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years. So I'm confident that he knows the constitution better than McCain. I find it hard to believe that McCain, who voted with Bush 90% of the time, will bring about the necessary change.
Just the facts Joe!
I think not!
Typical Democrate, trying to rewrite history.
If you check up on the facts, yes, they both botched or stretched a few things. But she, by far, botched many more things than Biden did. How anyone is still trying to defend her at this stage in the game is just sad and impossible to me. Biden's knowlege on foreign policy was a GRAND SLAM and she came back with yet another SWING, SWING, SWING and a MISS.
That is absolutely not true. Biden lied through his teeth. McCain did not vote against the troops and he supported Bosnia. Check the records people. Obama did say he would go to Iran without preconditions, once again, check the records and videos of him saying it. I loved the blogger who said "A lie said with confidence is still a lie" and it is so true that Biden lied. Sara was a much better debater last night and she has once again reignited the republican party who had seen how the leftist media had tried to massacre her since leaving Alaska. I would also like to know why the media is printing anything about what those 35 lawyers who were sent by Obama's campaign to Alaska to find dirt on her brought back, hmmm...maybe they actually could not find any and that is why it is not in the media now. Love McCain/Palin the WINNERS!!!!!
Contesa-- you've got to understand how votes are taken in Congress. There is never one single vote on an issue. Amendments are added, wording is changed and each action taken has to be voted on. The fact is that both McCain and Obama voted against the same bill for different reasons. The funding bill originally contained a timeline for troop withdrawal. Obama voted for it and McCain voted against it because he didn't like the timeline. The timeline was voted down and the final version did not contain it. That is why Obama voted against the final version. Neither candidate voted against it because they didn't want to support the troops, their problems were about the timeline issue.
Contesa,
You are the one who needs to check the records. Make sure you read the entire content of the legislation before making your comments! I will admit there were some factual errors on both sides, but where it matters most Biden HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK! He demonstrated his vast knowledge of all matters, foreign, domestic, constitutional, etc. I knew he was a smart, caring man, and this debate just emphasized that! It also was telling of Obama and his smarts, he sure picked a winner to run with him on the ticket! Can't say the same for McCain at all.
OBAMA/BIDEN 08/12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry...to dissapoint you, but Mr. Bidem was either deliberately lying or had a bad memory lapse on at least seven ponts during the debate. Either way he loses
Why could she not name 1 difference between the man on the TOP of her ticket (McCain) and the current president (Bush)? (That has nothing to do w/ Obama) Why could she not name any other Supreme Court Ruling other than Roe V. Wade? (That has nothing to do w/ Obama) How can she send her son to Iraq and not have any knowledge about the Bush Doctrine? (That has nothing to do w/ Obama)
Let's Take Obama & Biden out of this equation and see what's left..
Mary-268849, And what were those lies??? Seems Palin doesn't remember the commanders name in Iraq. I would say that she stretched the truth herself. She didn't come up with any answers to the questions posed but rambled on on what she was coached to state. She needed to continue to look down to review her talking points and never really made any.
Sorry, but Palin doesn't have the years of windbag speaking Biden does. Sure, he'll answer any question you want but he'll throw in a bunch of errors and flat-out lies just so he can blow enough hot air to make it seem like a complete thought. There were so many fallacies in his remarks I thought he was having another aneurysm right there.
SethBlue, Again you need to be specific when you say that he flat out lied. You use that same old Republican rhetoricby throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks. The problem is none of you can state any. Plus what about the lies Palin was spewing. Oh that's okay, she doesn't have the years of windbag speaking. She is a sorry choice for VP and you know it and McCain is using and all out attack because he know this is the only way he can get close in the polls. It's sad when you have to resort to this type of behaviour.
She was like an evil female version of a Cheney-Robot and he was right on with actual answers to the questions. All she did was rant on about talking points while he actually engaged in a debate. Someone should tell her that your suppose to address the issues and not repeat your stump speech over and over!
More like a Fembot from austin powers I kept waiting for the breast guns to come out and blast Biden..
I could not have agree with you more. Sarah was robotic in answering the questions with no substance. I don't think she knew what Achilles heel meant
I feel Sarah Palin is dangerous, she desires more power then Dick Chaney and says she don't have to listen to the media. We don't need this!!!!
Palin got on my nerves with her act. She was so non authentic and cutesy. And never answered the questions and was disreprestful by changing the subject all the time to what she wanted to talk about.
I also found her wanting to be like cheney and have even more power alarming!!!!
Joe was prepared, authoritive and yet, human and touching. He knows his stuff and is also very down to earth.
I agree she was "alarming". She doesn't understand the man Cheney. Biden was right and it made my day to hear him say Cheney was dangerous. I've said that for years.
And you are right, they taught her that when she had a question that she didn't know an answer to she should change the subject..that's what she did. One word-incompetent.
You are 100% correct! Cheney has been the clearest threat to our Country and our way of life in the past 8 years. He has a clear disregard and disdain for the Constitution. And yep, it appears that McCain/Palin are just like him. Its clear she's never read the Constitution...its a short read...its clear. I recommend it be required for all people running for office.
Watch Nightline tonight: the interview with Oliver Stone about Current President being the dangerous. Don't take my word, his words. I saw the preview of this interview.
Oh my, it is as I thought it would be....she just isn't capable of conversing on the majority of issues. Energy and attacking her opponents...that's all she had to offer. Some people are going to think she did very well, but when you compare her knowledge and not just head knowledge, but deep, intellect...she is not playing in her league. I just pray the people will not be swayed because I truly fear her and McCain. Neither of them are willing to "listen", they are both too anxious to be "right" and be a "maverick" -which means rebel. Come on Ohio and Indiana--please show your intelligence---go Obama/Biden!!!
All I heard her answer was the energy question-over and over again. Much of what she said was indeed for the purpose of driving a wedge between Obama and Biden, hopefully they saw through this and will agree to disagree on certain issues and still work together. I also thought she sounded like Kersti Alley in Drop Dead Georgous, anyone remember that movie-she sounded exactly like Kersti's character, with all the Darn its, and bless their hearts. Kersti carried a gun as well. Sorry that was off topic, but it made the comparison funny for me.
Please look up the tapes of the 2000 debate of Bush-Gore. It is so eary and scary that you will have nightmares. Sarah Palin is nothing more than George Bush in a dress. Word for word almost, she states the same crap as Bush did. McCain and Palin are not even Mavericks they are being run by the Bush machine and GOPAC that fooled the American people for 8 years and they think our memories are to short. Don't fall for the same old crap. I just got my ballot here today in Arizona it is filled out and mailed already and Obama-Biden got my vote and my wife's. My vote is in it is done. Ohio vote early vote Obama-Biden.
Biden was decisive and stuck to the question. Palin did not stick to the question and seemed to be memorizing talking points.
I thought Palin was very robotic and so rehearsed. I didn't hear her answering questions, just slogans on a campaign trail.
Hitting the nail on the head. You could see her lock up and freeze, then out comes the campaign garbage. She also didn't address Biden -- she turned to the cameras and tried to get in touch with the commoners. Nonsense. I'm not that stupid. She is frightening.
She kept going to energy and it seem she was all over the place. She wasn't answering the questions. She also sounded like she was reading a script.
Biden is the only choice for America for VP!
Biden couldn't even get going into the presidental race so why do you all think he's such a great candidate for V.P.? He's a dinasour and you all know how that goes! TIME FOR A REAL CHANGE! McCain/Palin betcha!
If Biden is a dinosour then Mcain is ancient dust, lol.Get the facts straight cause thats whats really matters.
First impressions on how each came off:
Biden: serious, sincere, seasoned, and backed up by reason
Palin: mean cheerleader, accustomed to getting her way - just because
Haha, I totally got that exact impression as well. Like if you were to upset her, she would write crap about you in her "burn book," and then blame it on Biden.
Haha, me too.
But I did like her lipgloss. Well, that something anyway!
TOOl, BABY, TOOL!!!
Great assessment of the debate. Now that Alaskans are seeing the "dark side" of her personality and she is no longer being honest and transparent her popularity numbers have taken a dive from the 80s to 68%.
Now that an Alaska Superior Court Judge refused to halt the state legislature's investigation of Troopergate, it will be very interesting to see what the results will be. One more week to go before the report is out then we will see how the investigation impacts the McCain/Palin campaign.
Yes Yes Nest that is a perfect analogy.....she was silly, sarcastic and disrespectful. She wanted things her way and thats that. Gwen Ifill should have done a better job moderating but i believe she was held back because of the earlier uproar by the repubs about her book.
Definitely, Robbin. I'm sick of everyone giving Gwen crap because everyone knows if she would've said, "Governor, you haven't answered the question" for the 10 times she failed to do so, she would've been ridiculed.
It's is pretty easy to see the difference between rhetoric and a depth of understanding. Our market may go up and down but the value of honesty remains a constant. Go Obama/Biden!!
My favorite part was when she said we needed McCain to leave instead of lead, on that I agreed with her at least! It was like watching a robot who said McCain and energy about 1,000 times and could not manage to define herself which is what I thought she needed to do, we all already know about McCain and now we know she is just McCain's robot.Obama/Biden 08
Yes, I caught that as well and thought, gee a little slip of the tongue there Ms. Palin. It was difficult to listen to her answers..it hurt my brain..Sen. Biden did an excellant job, she is cleary no match for him in any arena.
agree 100% and she even called him Senator Obiden at one point!!
Sorry. But the barracuda was still a Buffoon; even with lipstick.
Biden.
Biden answered every single question Palin avoided questions.
She did better than I thought, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting much besides rambling nonsense from her. And while there was SOME blathering, she wasn't quite as ditztacular as I was thinking (and maybe hoping!) she would be.
Joe Biden, on the other hand, did a FANTASTIC job. He was calm, collected, polite and perfectly on message. And, yes, he had to politic it up a little bit to explain his initial support of the Iraq war, but in general he had a great debate.
There was nothing that Ms. Palin said that should really reverse anybody's idea that she's unfit to be president, so I think in that way she certainly lost.
When I think about how many women leaders I've heard & seen in 4 decades, brilliant, articulate women who have had policies that genuinely have families' and other women's best interests in mind........I just want to spank this creepy politician right back to her house, where she can see Russia.
Joe nailed it.
She basically amounts to a collection of Republican generalizations dressed as one of those down home 50's gals that conservatives seem so fond of. She might be a fine wilderness governor, but she doesn't have what it takes to be president. Not now, certainly, and probably never.
Sarah Palin refused to answer the Moderator because Gwen wasn't asking the questions that the Gov wanted to be asked. Palin didn't make a gaffe per se, but she was mostly fluff and rhetoric.
Biden might not have been as 'exciting' but at least he was not daunted by the questions and his responses were substantive.
This whole "you're looking backwards again!" was moronic. A simple-minded response when the fact that McCain is not that different from President Bush. You can't differentiate yourself from the former administration by being "cutesy."
Biden has my respect. It was a debate - Palin wanted to do whatever she wished. I kept saying to her "just answer the question - it's a debate!" Biden, on the other hand, answered the questions with specifics. I came away shaking my head "this is a maverick ticket we do not need". Intelligent, solid and to the point answers are what Biden delivered.
She might have done better if she could have answered the questions instead of answering her own questions. She still shows she doesn't know as much as the average person on the street on some topics.

Biden was the only one who knew anything about foreign policy, no surprise.
