Nope, government employee for over 20 yrs and nearly another 20 to go & I make over $100K (Management), with solid retirement benefits. No, govt employee for over 20 yrs & another 20 to go & I make over $100K (Mgmt), with a solid retirement. Probably no pay raise next year.
Nothing is guaranteed for the working class or for any jobs that can be otherwise shipped overseas. As far as jobs are concerned, COUNTRY FIRST is not a convenient slogan but instead must apply to this very sector as it is J.O.B.S. that hold the key to our individual and collective economic stability.
Therefore, Obama/Biden 08 YES WE CAN!!! ...and here we come en masse to the POLLS and we will come EARLY according to our very own schedule - it will be madness come Nov 4the with record turnout!!!!! VOTE EARLY!!!
You sound like that other guy who has been provided for ALL his life by gov. in some way. He isn't worried either. Most everyone else IS. p.s. oh, yes, thanks for the p.o.w. thing-but that's over and has been for more years than many people have been alive. That is a non-issue. It's still the economy, stupid!!
I am retired but a family with children is a worse scenario. It is hard to see children suffering with no homes and health insurance. Can the government provide in difficult times?
Luckily I'm in education and my husband works for the utility company in our area. But I still worry about the state of our nation.
GO OBAMA/BIDEN 2008
I really do not think the economy is as bad as they say........Yes its bad but it will rebound by this time next year
Its not at the point of devastation is what im saying so if i was the average person i would continue to do what i have ben doing that is if your able.... Some may have to budget more, others maybe not but this is not i believe, so bad we will not recover
No disrespect meant...but education won't be much help in this situation. And if people can't pay utility bills...there will be lay offs in those positions. America has about 1 or 2 notches left in the belt tightening before it can tighten no more. America is on it's last crust of bread left by the most vicious, and inept administration in the history of the world. Bush and his cronies have raped and piliaged the US for far too long. I can only pray that there is justice....and the greedy will be punished....and their coffers that once overflowed with the fruits of those who worked so hard all their lives only to have them stolen via legal theivery....will be emptied and distributed back to their rightfull owners....Obama my go down in history as the Robin Hood who saved America!....1 citizen....1 vote!
I just seen Sarah Palin on tv her lies will not stop when they realize she is the reason they are loosing this election they are going to start mud slanging among themselves.
This is a twisted lady who can lie and tell Sarcastic jokes with a straight face.
who would want someone like her in the whitehouse?
Joe the plumber said he didnt have a problem with Obama and she is saying Joe is upset at Obama what is the truth?
They twist the truth so much just like a typical GOP like Bush saying weapons of mass destruction was in Iraq LETS BOMB THEM when he knew their wasnt
Whats up with theses REPS and their contiued twisted truths NO MORE REPS IN THE WHITEHOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
Sarah Palin President I DONT THINK SO she would collapse this country as we know, You think its bad now God forbid something happens to John Mccain if elected and she becomes the President The very thought is frighteneing just looking at her speak and talk and how she handles her position now is so unprofessional PEOPLE WAKE UP this woman cannot sit down at a international summit and tell jokes with twisted sarcasm and think its going to give her a pass
THIS IS REAL LIFE HERE NOT A JOKE.......... SARAH PLEASE GO BACK TO ALASKA AND HIDE YOU HAVE SHAMED THIS COUNTRY ENOUGH ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ISLE..........
James4O...you keep blaming Bush and the GOP for a weapons a mass destruction lie. Did you forget Clinton's LIE of the same thing? Did you back Clinton and his party's claim of weapons before they destroyed a baby-food plant?
Why was it OK and I'm sure backed by you then and that truth was OK to be twisted?
Palin has more qualifications to be a president than your teacher "O"! DAMN forgot she's a VP candidate not running for president like your rookie. In all my years of voting I've never seen so much attention thrown at the VP guess you and the media are just trying to keep attention off your low rated VP and rookie President candidate.
In the 90s, Clinton thought they did, hell we all thought they did, esp. since we sold em the technology back in the eighties. However, when they investigated it in the 2000 and everyone even our own intelligence, said they didn't have them, we should have listened.
justwantitover....the reason so much attention is "thrown" at palin is because she's considered by many scholars and myself, to be a last ditch effort by mccain to win an election. It had nothing to do with his mantra of country first...and everything to do with winning the presidency. She is incompetant to be VP....and by extrapolation....totally incompetant to step in as president. A desperate choice to save his empty, 4 more years of bush failures campaign. So...don't feel like the lone ranger here. In all my years I've never seen such a bone headed pick for the VP...there were MANY far more capable candidates in the republican party....but the maverick...and I say that lightly....wanted to win the presidency rather than win the war to bring America back to greatness.
No, I am retired but I am worried for family with children. They will lost everything including homes and insurance. It is a worse scenario in difficult times.
I work in a union grocery store. No matter how bad the economy gets, people still have to eat. They will buy hamburger and pass up steaks
Until the store is bought out and the forever changing laws regarding workers rights impact your security..............
No, I've not been let go yet. But if Obama is elected he will undoubtedly increase taxes on my boss, our Company could subsequently fail. I guess after 25 years there is always unemployment or welfare, but that is what re-distribution of wealth is all about.
I think we should all think long and hard about voting for the Robin Hood proposal....
Good luck....
No pink slip yet, but if Obama is elected he will undoubtedly increase taxes on my boss thus our Company could subsequently struggle or fail. I suppose there is always unemployment or welfare for my family, but that is where redistribution of wealth will benifit me....
After a life of hard work, NEVER MISSED A DAY OF WORK! I'll take capitalism over socialism any day!
Vote smart....
So tell me why when Clinton had companies pay more taxes he created 22 million jobs, but Bush cut the hell out of business taxes and lost millions of jobs? Don't buy into the republican BS.
Vote Democrat, your kids will Thank You.
dstein...NJ...
You say in your sign off to vote smart....a smart vote would be for Obama...and not Mccain who would only be dragging the economy farther down the crapper with more of bushes economic voodoo....hasn't the US suffered enough at the hands of this carpetbagger and his cronies...
djstein... you talk about politics like you're drunk at the sports bar and your very life depended on your "team" winning despite it's poor choice of players and plays, and trash talk.
seriously. sometimes people get so polarized they stop thinking rationally...
Your boss will not be taxed more unless he/she is one of the very wealthy 2 or 3%. If it is a small business the taxes will be less under Obama. You should back away from the kookaid and learn to think for yourself. A working person that votes for the Repubs is voting against their own best interest and the fat cats are laughing all the way to the offshore bank. Wake up, it is a snake oil sale and you are the rube!
billjoy
I think you might want to stay away from the koolaid....I'm tired of all these cheep shots. I do think for myself, that's why I am here writing this. I think that being informed is in "my best interest". I think you should wake up!

Just checked at a proposed tax calculator site and found My wife and I will save $1445.00 under Obama and $120.00 under McCain so you are incorrect in your numbers.
Check this site for the facts and enjoy your Kookaid:
For income tax? I'm suprised. What about capital gain? Inheritance? Dividend?
I noticed you didn't link you calculator????
Drink up....
Lmao! you drink up dstein! Have you paid attention to the economy lately? Who's paying divided taxes, capital gains tax and inheritance tax in this market? No one has any money to tax! With foreclosure rates up 71%, job loss topping 700,000, and our market losing 25% of its net worth in just the month of October, who's worried about taxes for the wealthy!
If they don't wanna pay up I say give us back our 700,000,000 billion!
You are right....but don't ask me, ask Barney Frank, he was asleep. I would love to have my 401-K back, but with Obama and a super majority taxing like crazy to pay for all these programs that they are promising....no way, never happen!
Why are you so hostile?
I know alot of people get on here and make up stories about who they are and what they do.. but hey... here's what I do for a living... I work with taxes. I see everything from the big corporation returns, to the little Joe's... Because I work intimately with the computer software that the majority of them are prepared on. And frankly, you haven't got a clue if you think taxation boils down to a bulleted list of numbers that aren't even accurate. You seriously haven't got a clue.
btw... Somewhere, the KoolAid man just busted out of his grave yelling "Oh YEAH!" so that he could dump himself all over you. Since you like it so much.
I work with taxes as well and the so called "bullet points" were published in the Sun Times. Do your homework....
Also take a look on Obama's website. Under the McCain comparison, the last line in fine print reads: "Calculations based on IRS Statistics of Income. Does not include impact of health plans."
I feel certain that when this little health care issue enters the TAX EQUATION the numbers will reflect a slight change, don't you MR. TAX MAN. Smoke and mirrors my fellow American......Enough with the kookaid already! VOTE SMART!!!
durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... I must not be smart enough to understand... since I'm accused of not doing homework, given a comparison based on incomplete information, and then told to be smart again. If I mail you my absentee ballot, will you just do it for me? I hear if you listen to the right radios.... and read the right newspapers long enough... you go blind and deaf and become a raving lunatic.
dstein...here's where I have a problem with your "facts"
OBAMA (reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400 - WRONG
Single making 50K - tax $14,000 - WRONG
Single making 75K - tax $23,250 - WRONG
Married making 60K - tax $16,800 - WRONG
Married making 75K - tax $21,000 - WRONG
Married making 125K - tax $38,750 - WRONG
The problem is....the pre bush tax cuts apply to anyone making over $250K....nice try but no cigar....People making less than $250K won't pay a dime more than they paid last yr....so please....you ask that others get their facts straight?......this sounds like more flush limpdog, shun handily, and bill o'really talking....
dstein.....Here is Obama's plan: It's a very far cry from what you posted...the truth will set you free...
$0-$18,891 = $567 tax cut
$18,982-$37,595 = $892 tax cut
$37,596-$66,354 = $1,118 tax cut
$66,355-$111,645 = $1,264 tax cut
$111,646-$160,972 = $2,135 tax cut
$160,973-$226,918 = $2,796 tax cut
$226,919-$603,402 = $121 tax increase
$603,403-$2.87 million = $93,709 tax increase
$2.87 million-plus = $542,882 tax increase
Here are the 2009 IRS tax tables for married filing jointly
Compare them to 2008 married filing jointly.
Where's the cut?
I am not worried, hard work is always rewarded. This is a good time for the sick, lame and lazy to be purged from the system.
How do you figure? The sick aside, because under Obama the Government will have "oversight" on healthcare.
The LAME and LAZY will be the recipients via the hard work of the middle and upper class. Higher taxes for the upper class will pay for more programs like unemployment and welfare. Why not just create jobs (McCain), and keep the government out of the equasion.
I have always been a proponent that hard work is rewarded, but not true under an Obama administration. On the contrary, hard work will be punished with taxation, and the LAME/LAZY will be financed with that tax money costing more jobs.
Please vote smart...
Purge and go where...maybe become criminals...we do not want that...and the sick, man you better hope God does not strike you down with a terminal illness if you speak like that...because if you become the sick then you will be crying for help...the lazy, ok laziness I truly detest, I am a really hard worker and I agree with you that hard work is rewarded eventually...but I am not going to leave others behind and just be selfish...I will help where I can to bring everyone up...not just focus on myself...When you represent America you represent EVERYONE in the country not just yourself...selfishness is what got us all into the econonomic downfall in the first place so I think everyone should be an example and be LESS selfish and more giving...
who the (insert veil explicative) are you? adolf?....gorring?...goebles?....that's exactly what your insensitive and sh*tty/elitist/POS post sounded like....God help you...
Good Lord, talk about stupid, sick, lame and lazy to be purged from the system. You sound like a selfish and greedy person, maybe one day you will be sick or lame. Hope people spit on you as they step over you on the sidewalk. You truley deserve it.
marty
Say what???? Hard work is not always rewarded and someone might think you are one of the sick, lame and lazy. Certainly if they include stupid in the sick group you will qualify!!
Just because someone lost their job and is having difficulties finding another one DOES NOT make them lazy. This is very judgmental and I agree with Mike-466944 - you better hope you don't get ill and become one of the 'sick' that you condemn.
The Repbs. are always soooooooo worried about helping those less fortunate, UNTIL, that is, THEY become less fortunate. And it can happen "my friends". I guess you need banners that say "I like white-collar welfare" and "out sourcing is capitalistic, and I love it" Then would you be happy??? And you complain about sick people??? That's sick!!
It seems that the right forgets that tax money also goes to infrastructure jobs, school education, emergency services, etc. Cutting taxes is code for cutting programs.
The right also forgets that we have had major disasters recently that have showed us what happens when we don't keep up with our infrastructure ( such as the levies breaking in Louisiana as well as a major bridge collapse in Minneapolis) and it's already estimated that there are many more that are overdue for repair. Due to the loss of tax revenue they can't even finish our border bridge to the south.
We can't tax our way out of everything, just look back at the last eight years if you don't believe me.
And for the person complaining about the sick: what he/she doesn't know is that every time someone comes to the hospital with out insurance, we treat em but we don't cover the cost. We pass the bill to insurance companies and they raise YOUR insurance premiums and eliminate YOUR benefits to cover the extra cost. So either way you are going to pay for the sick.
Its your choice, pay a cheaper rate to the government or continue to pay outrageous insurance premiums to companies that can deny you coverage if YOUR illness becomes to costly. Either way, you're going to pay.
You're right ohiogal....we can't tax our way out of everything....the problem is...this country can not exist without taxes....the bush administration prosecuted 2 wars without rasing any taxes...NO PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE US WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO DO THAT...but do you want to know WHY he did it?....because if raised your taxes....people ....normal people who were fed up with the lies....would now have a reason to protest...like they did in the 60's....that shut the war down....The current administration in my opinion is guilty of Treason! They've jeopardized the US, they've trampled on the constitution for their own interests. they should all do jail time....and I firmly believe this.....if mccain does somehow manage to get elected....there will be another cival war....that will tear this country apart to the point it will be every man for themselves....and easy pickings for any other foreign nation to take over....the wealth will have been smuggled out by the rich...and the poor and middle class will be left to defend what was once the US.....nice huh?......you can thank the bush administration for putting us here!
one other thing...I wish I would have used spell check....it's one thing to raise points...but quite another to not spell correctly....
I answered earlier and I have already been Pink Slipped, this happened last Thursday. I was angry with myself, the company, the others who kept their jobs, then I realized that the Congress, Senate and President are to blame. By looking at the politics in play since the start of this past year, ie., the Presidential election, I see thru the shades of grey and see POLITICS from both sides at work in this Financial situation. The DEMS point at the REPUBS. The REPUBS point back, everyone blamed the President. I am F***ing sick of it. Our government let this situation happen. Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, Reid, Obama, Biden, McCain, Bush, any or all of them could have or should have stopped this from happening, yet it was politically expedient to allow: first Oil to hit $147.00 dollars a barrel, then we have people living in houses they can't afford with a mortgage coming due they can't afford and our benevolent politicians push their own agendas at the cost of WE THE PEOPLE. Think about it, these people are suppose to serve all the people, not just Dems, not Just Repubs or Libertarians or Greens, everyone, yet the only people they serve are themselves. We are all screwed, no matter which party gets in, but we are doubly screwed if the Libs get a Super majority, then we are all going to be screwed by out of control spending, a cut to our military which will leave us weak, and overindulgences by Liberals who wish to make us Socialists in the make of Europe. That was my one shot at Libs for the night.
My anger is extensive at both parties. Our govenrment no longer functions for us, for WE THE PEOPLE, it functions to keep Congressional members and Senators in power. For after all, upon election or re-election they spend more time raising money for the next election than they do governing responsibly.
Dear MHammer,
I could not agree with you more. YOU GET IT.....The "benevolent politicians" that we elected to oversee the programs we voted for them to impose were asleep at the switch! In a corporate world they would be gone.....All parties are to blame, no doubt. A SUPER MAJORITY would be fatal for America.
Perhaps we are currently okay in general......but we may never be AMERICA again. WE THE PEOPLE are not Socialists....not just yet!
PLEASE VOTE SMART...
djstein... you talk about politics like you're drunk at the sports bar and your very life depended on your "team" winning despite it's poor choice of players and plays, and trash talk.
seriously. sometimes people get so polarized they stop thinking rationally...
MiddleClass....I'm looking for that smiley of a guy on his knees with his hands outstreached...in the "I'm not worthy" movement....Bravo...you hit dstein's nail right on the head!....he urges to vote smart...but I can assure you he will vote the way so many blind kool aid drinking...save the party republicans will.....which....isn't very smart at all...
middleClass, you should have more than one statement. The copy and paste is anoying. and whoknew how can he hit the nail on the head for every discussion with the same exact reply.
The SAD TRUTH is Obama will probably win. The rest of us citizens will have to find a way to survive. If we listen to the experts world wide and not just our politicians trying to get elected this economic disaster will be here for a quite a while (PBS television with Mendelbrot). Obamas views on national security and personal freedoms are going to make it hard for everyone to live. Especially people who live in cities. That is where the suicide bombers he lets in will hit first.
We all have to figure out how we will live until the end of his 4 or 8 years since the trend is 2 terms for all presidents lately.
gguelde....I'll reply to your comment...I saw only 2 statements from middleclass....FYI...it's happend many times to many people on here...a posting/software glitch...nothing more nothing less...heck...its even happened to me....
You are delusional if you think Obama will be soft on terroism...and you talk of "figuring out how to live".....I'd be willing to bet that the majority of Americans have been doing just that under the 8 years of BS republican/bush leadership. Bush is an idiot....a rich kid...not in touch with anything but his privates.....and it won't be a sad truth when Obama wins...it will be a great truth....something that has been a long time coming....something to finally mark the begining of the end of racism, and the beginning of a new, stronger, mentally and economically healthy America...where our standing and trust in the world will once again remain supreme.....bush and his failed policies, wars, and every other thing he has tried has trashed this nation, it's constitution, and it's name around the globe....it's time someone...and that someone is Obama lifted America back up onto the world leader pedistal it belongs....gguelde...and the majority of you other republican responders....please...do yourselves and the world a favor...step away from the cool aid....
MHammer...while I agree with most of what you've said...I find it difficult to understand the purpose of your post....if you don't offer a solution....it's fence balancing rhetoric...
you mention we are "doubly screwed"?.....the bush admin has left this country with NOTHING...I say again....NOTHING...perhaps worse than NOTHING....MORE DEBT...THE BIGGEST DEBT HOLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD....and you want another republican to be at the wheel???
Here's a clue....1/2 of NOTHING is STILL NOTHING! and that is exactly what this country will end up as if a republican wins the office of the presidency....God help us all if that happens....
The rest of us have had to survive 8 years of that stupid idiot your side put in the Whitehouse so heres back at you (To quote Caribou Barbie)
The reason I like to look at a liberal site like this is to try and make me feel better about Obama winning. Usually there is good conversation with insightful comments. However it appears today all the Obama backers want to do is recite television commercials and throw insults.
I should have known better. It reminds me of speaking with Cubs fans in April.
I hope most of these people are right and more jobs are created. So far I have not seen anything to suggest Obama will do anything to help; the only positive is he is not Bush.
As for safety I hope he is truly returning the donations he took from the terrorists on the gaza strip like he said he would. Until they have reported he has done this (the last report on CNN said he had not) I will have to assume these terrorists are funding him for a reason.
Good luck, I hope you are right about Obama for everyone's sake.
You reallly don't believe that Obama will turn us over to our enemies do you? Get real!!!! That would never happen!!!! However, I do believe we will be past the cowboy shoot em up that we have been doing for 8 years. Even our allies in the world are wondering if our government is totally nuts.
gguelde..amen to you!
Let's hope {if elected} Obama comes thru with some of his promises. So far I haven't heard how he plans to pay for all this magic except by taxing the upper class into the ground. To quote whoknew: "but I can assure you he will vote the way so many blind kool aid drinking...save the party republicans will.....which....isn't very smart at all..." That makes no sence. The object is not to save the republican party, it's to save the middle class! They drive the economy, they are Joe the plumbers! Punishing the upper class with rediculous taxes will only hurt America starting with the middle class! But that is okay, you just go blame everything on Bush. I'm sure that's the standard excuse for the next 4 years anyway!
Another thing, and to quote whoknew again: "?.....the bush admin has left this country with NOTHING...perhaps worse than NOTHING....MORE DEBT...THE BIGGEST DEBT HOLE IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD...." well correct me because the fact (not an excuse) is the whole Freddy and Fannie mess started with the Clinton Adm, and his pal Barney Frank (D) who was supposed to be watching the shop, but was asleep at the switch! I frankly don't feel to comfortable about a democrat super majority.
I'm voting smart!
Destin...NJ
you are correct the mess started with Freddy and Fannie back in the Clinton days. Now Obama's financia advisor is the Ex-CEO for Fannie.
We can guess how his (Obama's) economics will work if this CEO did not learn his lesson the first time.
Yeah BUT..... Where were the responsible Republicans for six years when they had total control of Both houses of Congress and the Presidency. They changed the house and Senate rules to limit debate and filibuster, rules that were in place for 150 years. Ruthlessly pushed through their agenda. Why wasn't Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform on the agenda? They spent a week on Terry Shivo, why not on Freddie Mac? Six years and not one bill to head this problem off? If it was such a bad change why didn't they change it back? I don't understand, they had no problem strong arming us into most of messes but they couldn't lift a finger to fix it? So then the Democrats get the house back and the Senate with the slimest of margins and what happens? Barney Frank introduces a bill to address the issues in Fannie and Freddie and it is filibustered by the Republicans. I don't understand, why filibuster fixing the problem ignored for the previous six years. In fact more filibusters have taken place from this Republican minority than in the last year than in any session of congress in the history of the country. Why is that? Are they really trying to work for the country or against it?
dstein....freddie and fannie are a big part of this hole we're in....but...at 10 billion dollars a month going to the iraq war....it's only part of the problem....NO president in the history of America went to war without raising taxes...or asking for the citizens to do something...whether it was for the ladies to give up their nylons, ration sugar and gas...something...our president said....go out and shop....only an idiot could have come up with that solution....if we keep this up...we'll be asked to go out and spend...but there won't be any stores left because they all closed claiming bankruptsy....and there won't be any money to spend because we'll all have lost our jobs....This president and his administration is a disgrace...and will go down in history as one....notwithstanding that he should be held for treason and on charges of crimes against humanity...a little tough you say?....sometimes the truth really does hurt!
I am a mailman and the news out there is scary, very scary. Federal employees are not immune to layoffs.
I attended an Obama rally - and felt proud to be an American.
I attended a McCain rally - and saw mad, hateful people... It was frightening...
You decide... Find fault, fight about it or just fix what's wrong...
Obama 08/12
Well Ive seen how pathetic some of McCain's supporters are:
1. the female voluneteer who faked that she was attacked for wearing a McCain sticker
2. the female supporter who stated that she "would not vote for an arab."
I really am ashamed that these people are in the great land of America. Tells me how blinded and hateful some of McCain's supporters and who will vote Republican even if the candidate was a mule.
Mike,
The same can be said going both ways. I can show 10 Obama supporters for every McCain one. My favorite vote for Obama statement and have heard it several times is vote for Obama he is a brother. Don't vote for the honky McCain.
There are idiots on every side of the fence and some even like to stradle it.
I half expect the people at the McCain rallies to start goosestepping and looking for someone to lynch. A sorry bunch if you ask me
Terrorist are a sorry bunch. You shall know a man by the company he keeps. Know Obama. No obama. Sorry indeed. If you elect him don't blame me.
I was going to post a comment to this but that would be a waste of time. Have some more kookaid!!!
Nothing I have seen in my nearly 60 years parallels the buyout, brought on by deregulation. Lets get civilization back. We take away licenses, jail people, etc. for driving drunk..we didn't do that back in the 60's when most gigantic common good businesses were regulated. I am thinking its time to put some sideboards back on banking, utilities, and transportation..and get rid of govt spying on us. U.S. debt always goes up with the repubs, who refuse to tax, deregulate, take spending to new heights and this time have enfringed on the bill of rights! Gee, who would have thought war would cost money. Data shows an ever widening gap between the wealthy and us regular people since the 60s. The end of Reaganomics can't come too soon. Vote dems for more fiscally responsible government.
I must add something to this.
No president has cut taxes during a war. Ever. Until Bush. And people are actually voting to get tax cuts? Um... ok?
I can't afford the taxes, but I'm a realist. If the taxes were raised to fund the war, there would be no troops in Iraq at this point, due to the popularity. If taxes were raised, its a safe bet our debt with the Chinese would be smaller, if existent.
Instead, we have to borrow, and borrow, and borrow. For what? A false sense of hope? We went into Iraq for WMDs. We did not find them. Maybe some of you can rationalize it saying they were moved... but the fact is they aren't there. Get out. Stop costing lives and debt. They will destabilize if we leave 10 years from now, and they will destabilize the same rate if we left tomorrow.
Windfall profits tax on oil and proceeds sent to auto makers to make the vehicles necessary to relieve dependence on oil. Create products that other countries demand so US can make a profit. Renegotiate trade agreements so companies who ship their jobs overseas get hit hard.
Easier said than done, I know. But drill here, drill now, drill everywhere will do nothing but deepen our dependence. The whole concept is to remove it entirely.
Bracing for another depression...
Jay...what you have written has been the mantra of the sane for many months....but it's the insane/bushenomic/mcfailin policies that have gripped the nations less informed...and perhaps some of the nations so called informed. Hatred spewing from o'really, flush limpdog, and shun handily has done more to corrupt peoples intelligence than bill ayers or rev whatshisname ever could....
People should read and re read what you've just posted!
Jay,
I like your post, it is well thought. Taxes aside, the issue is Iraq. I don't want to be there any more than the next guy. The WMD's were a screw-up without doubt. A premeditated fabrication to invade a country, absolutely not! Probably bad intel, but it's now water over the dam. Should we leave tomorrow? Of course, but it would create an instant terrorist vacuum from Iran and Syria that would destabilize the reigon and breed anti-American feelings in Iraq. The Iraq's people would be invaded again, this time by people that would not care to help them for one second. It is a matter of national security that we stay, at least until Iraq an defend itself.
As for energy, the answer is do everything and do it now! Nuclear is the best solution, but the environmentalists are not sold on the idea, and democratic house and congress will never allow it. You are spot-on with making more efficient vehicles and doing anything we can to get away from importing oil, of anything for that matter.
Bracing as well...
Jay and Dstein,
you are both right; we need sources of energy and should go in all dirrections. Nuclear is a good choice, but i am a fan of renewable resources. I can not figgure out why the demecorats fight every single source of renewable resources. If you drive down the road they have an Obama poster and a no wind farm poster. I think it is retarted of the dems to say no to every sourse of energy ranging from oil to wind to solar to hydorelectric to ethenol to boidiesel.
In my opinion most of the dems do not know what they want let alone what they need.
My husband works for a company that produces very well known plumbing fittings and valves. It is a company with plants all over the U.S. and worldwide. Due to the massive slowdown in construction, he was told a couple weeks ago that this company was cutting 10% of it's U.S. work force and closing some of it's plants. The cuts are coming from corporate headquarters, so nobody knows who will get the ax. Senority has no bearing for this expected layoff. My husband is 59 years old, has worked for this company for over 10 years and if laid off, due to his age, he will probably not be able to find work. That means possibly losing our house of 10 years and two new cars that were purchased earlier this year when things were fine. I have physical problems, as does he, so work abilities are limited and we are now living pay check to pay check with prices of everything going up more and more...........totally not a good time in our life to be going through this crap!!!! And 50% of my inherited IRA just went down the toilet.........Obama, do your thing and save the little guys like us!!!!
Too early to tell - I work for a University, and it will depend on how much drop we see in donations. Government grants are already slowing down. There were deep cuts after the dot-com bust, so another loss of funding could force cuts all over again. Very trying times and I really don't trust that our government gets it. I'm hoping some new approach will help. I'm voting for Obama.
You don't think government gets it now. Obama really doesn't get it and neither will anyone else get any thing. Watch our freedom and our quality of life go to hell. Why give the government more power and yet that is the where you look for answers. The answer is in less government not more.
logan...less government?....sure....then rely on wall street to give you a fair deal...without gov there will be chaos....what does less gov mean?....who decides what is too much....
We need a gov that is representative of the people...NOT BIG BUSINESS...which is exactly what this gov has turned into.....and this is not a dem/rep issues...it goes for both..
I have already lost my job, and nobody will hire me because they are hiring younger, cheaper folks, or immigrants with ?vague? documents.
THANKS MR. BUSH
You think you are going to fair better if Obama wins. He will break the backbone of America -small businesses. Think times are rough now! Just wait!
JR Logan.......I want to peer into your crystal ball too.......please......please.....can I? Lets firmly put the "politics of fear" to death with this election people. This is pathetic!
ALREADY LOST MY JOB !!! LOSING MY HOME!! And who knows what is next? Anyone out there need any help?? I will do anything to make money for groceries. We don't accept welfare in our home.
Make it a great day.
Vote For Obama, please.
I'm not too worried about losing my job now since I run a recycling center. As times get tough people recycle more to get a little extra money. But, in 2003, I already lost a job under Bush due to company downsizing and moving out of state. That job paid much more than I make now.
What kills me is like alot of good people out there are in my position right now.
I bought my house 18 years ago... I have gone without many times to make sure my bills are paid did what ever it was to make it work.
I did not over spend, I just had the good sence that if you borrow you pay back. Now 18 years later if I lose my job, I lose my home with 12 yrs left to pay. I have a small nest egg.. enough for 6 months but after that all bets are off.
I have gone through this once before 6 years ago. I worked 3 part time jobs for 2 years until found one that I could bank on until now. Now I am going to lose this job who is going to help me.
I am tired of hearing about Congress rescuing the ALT A and sub prime people and not the ones that played by the rules. I have never asked for help in my life but this is different. Soon I will be back on the streets pounding the pavement and I will find work eventually and will work digging ditches if necessary. But I want to know this :
Obama and McCain ... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR ALL OF US THAT PLAYED BY THE RULES AND DON'T PLAY THE SYSTEM FOR ALL ITS WORTH. ARE YOU GOING TO BAIL US OUT !!
Probably not.
