So why is it assumed that only men, and white men at that, are the prime candidates? I think Hillary Clinton should be considered. Is Madeline Albright interested in doing a terrific job, again? Are we to assume Pres. Obama will be bipartisan but chauvinistic? What about asking Colin Powell do the job again but this time for an administration that tells him the truth? Who made up the "short list" an old white guy?
I don't think thats it at all. Sen Clinton will probably not take the job because she is needed where she is, or she might be a candidate for the Supreme Court, I said might now. As far as Colin Powell is concerned, I'am not sure he would want the job either, especially in light of what happened to him with the current administration, he'd be facing some of the same people he faced before, that might make him feel uncomportable. Madeline Albright has retired, she will however make an excellent advisor. But one thing to remember, a lot of new people should be brought in as well. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I think Hillary would do a good job but I dont think she is intrested, I dont know what is in the works for Hillary but whatever it is she has picked it herself, the way she came out and supporteed President Elect Obama was great and she deserves whatever she wants. I really like Chuck Hagle, Out of all that has been mentioned he is my pick. I dont normally care much for republicans but with Sen. Hagle I have seen the truth when a lie would have been easier for him. He is smart and classey and knows foreign policy and really cares about our military men and women. You dont have to be a man for sec of state, but during war I want someone who has been there. I know we have women in war but not with the age and experience of Chuck Hagle.
Don't like WHITE MEN, huh? Is that the ONLY reason you voted for OBAMA?
Call me crazy, but I think Hillary Clinton would be the woman for the job. She needs to be involved somewhere in his cabinet.
I like Bill Richardson for starters, and I like John Kerry too, but Richardson for sure. He has the experience.
I've heard the argument that Richardson would be a bad choice for any cabinet position. Apparently he was ineffective in the Clinton Administration. He sure wasn't much of a candidate during the primaries. He seems like a nice enough guy but no substance.
And I like ice cream, and cookies, and cake, and let me see, what else?
It needs to be Colin Powell. We need someone who has the experience, the intelligence level and common sense. Something that has clearly been lacking in Washington these past few years.
Sorry about your Colin problem, but it's CLAIRE MCASKILL (D.-MO).
I think it will be Bill Richardson. He has vast foreign policy knowledge and experience.
I think it should either be Bill Clinton, Colin Powell or Chuck Hagel. Bill Clinton is still held in high regards arount the world (despite Republicans hate for him) . Chuck Hagel has an excellent backround to also fulfill this position. That would also show the Obama can reach across the isle and put a Republican in his cabinet. Colin Powell would be the supreme choice in my opinion. He has the experience and he has forsight and excellent diplomacy.
I don't think that Bill Clinton would be interested and not sure how that would work. As previous president his value is better where it is. I agree that Colin Powell or Chuck Hagel would be a wonderful choice, although I would love to see Colin Powell at Secretary of Education. I heard somewhere, that education is his true passion and also that of his wife, Alma.
Aren't you glad we're not wondering if McCain would be choosing "Todd" as Secretary of State?
Or the Witch doctor for Surgeon General?
God, yes!! And I do, thank God every day that he pointed Americans in the right direction!
Yes, and Sarah Palin said God would point the US in the right direction. Would have loved to be a fly on her wall listening to her prayers after the results came in! Do ya think God's ears were burning? You betcha!
I hope it isn't Colin Powell.....We all have to remember that he went in front of the UN and made Bush's case for war against Iraq, even though he backed Obama, the world will remember this
Amen to that! Remember what happened the last time POWELL was in charge of anything!! (Can you say 9-11??)
Supposedly, Al Gore was the most pro-active vice-president, that is before Cheney. Also, I always believed the Clinton economic views were right on target. Al Gore, who was active within Clinton's economic philosophy, would be a great asset for the Obama admin. Plus, he is as sharp as a tack.
sharp as a tack? thats kinda sticky, but so is Kinda-Sleezy Rice.
I am all for Hillary as she was always my choice. She is doing a fine job for New York..and he blew it not picking her as VP! However, I have always been a strong admirer of Colin Powell. If he says no, then go for Bill Richardson. I am a woman and let us now pick a woman just for the sake of a woman.....look what the pick of Sarah Palin did!
It's Claire McCaskill, just ask her? Obama's always in Missouri just to see HER!
He blew it all the way to the White House! Palin's pick helped the other team because she spewed red meat all over the place which the GOP hard core element loved. She turned the majority of the country off, however and ruined their ticket. Every poll will tell you this. I'm all for a qualified woman - but that wasn't her. Now, I just want her to go back up North and forget about the national stage. My television can't take anymore of her.
I think that Al Gore, Hillary or Bill Clinton, Colin Powell or Madeline Albright . I think the BEST choice wold be Colin Powell.
Why not Sarah Palin. Hell if she's one heartbeat away from the presidency, why couldn't she handle the Secretary or State position. If not her, how about Joe Lieberman?
Don't think she has the qualities needed and Joe Lieberman, uh, No.
Not sarah, I am already tired of that pink Jacket she is wearing all the time. She should really just go shopping, I really think that may be a hidden talent she has. As for Joe Lie berman, hope he just rots in a committe somewhere till he gets called home

Al Gore. Very smart, respected around the world. A class act. We need him center stage to rebuild the track record of the USA
