Even though he is the most unqualified man in the history of this nation to become President and his cabinet and agency head picks have been for the most part disasterous, he is a powerful speaker.
This is the one that's really powerful taken in its entirety, as opposed to others that just have a very memorable, striking "soundbite."
Oh yeah... What exactly did he say of any substance? What can you point to and say that means --- x.y.z ? I didn't hear anything, it sounded just like his campaign promises, full of nothing.
Jefferson's speech today reminds us that our country was based on tolerance that we seem too often to forget. ... "let us reflect that, having banished from our land that religious intolerance under which mankind so long bled and suffered, we have yet gained little if we countenance a political intolerance as despotic, as wicked, and capable of as bitter and bloody persecutions"
IT IS NOT WHAT THEY SAY. IT IS WHAT THEY DO! I wasn't alive during his presidency, but I would say Franklin Roosevelt "put his money where his mouth" was....
FDR's speech came when this country was in worse shape than it is now. It gave reassurance to the masses. It proved that this man had the wisdom and the courage to lead this country out of ruin and with his progressive programs and policies (which were not popular with the Congress) and into a period of semi-prosperity which blossomed with the advent of WWII. I feel that FDR was the greatest president this country has ever seen, bar none!
You got that right !! And today he signed the No Lobbiest Bill. I heard a Lobbiest on the radio at lunch time today say, "My job is secure because what he did really effected nothing. It was all about appearances".... Nice start to a new way of doing things, huh? AND I am willing to bet good money that the media praises him for changing things..... Yeah Right!!
This was a speech that change the face of the United States. This speech represented the needs of all people.
You can bet that President Obama will speak as eloquently tomorrow as he has all through his campaign. He has an amazing way of connecting with all the people. I pray that he is as good a President as he is a speaker.
He appears to connect with all people by simply staying away from specifics. Those of us that have been around for awhile are not fooled by this trick, especially from a politician. Can you name any real accomplishment or substantial peice of legislation he is responsible for, I don't know of any. The real Obama (the socialist ) will come out when he starts to enact policy. I pray for our country and that his socialist policies fail, they would be disasterouse for our country.
I wish that you would give him a chance as you did all of the Republicans. It's obvious some people never change, even when you know what the last 8 years brought us.
I agree with Logical1.... He didn't really say anything that you can put your finger on.
However, today he did put thru an executive order to stop lobbiest. NOT!! I heard a lobbiest speaking on the radio today and he said his job is secure because what Obama did looks like he did something to stop lobbiest, but in reality it was a face without the body --- looks good, but has no legs..... I can hardly wait to hear all of the praises the media will poor on the news reports tonight for the great change in the lobbiest ability to get their messages to the President...... Man, are we that stupid to buy this load?
The best Inaugural Speech? Washington's second. It was the shortest...direct, to the point and with conviction. Here it is in its entirety:
"Fellow Citizens:
I am again called upon by the voice of my country to execute the functions of its Chief Magistrate. When the occasion proper for it shall arrive, I shall endeavor to express the high sense I entertain of this distinguished honor, and of the confidence which has been reposed in me by the people of united America.
Previous to the execution of any official act of the President the Constitution requires an oath of office. This oath I am now about to take, and in your presence: That if it shall be found during my administration of the Government I have in any instance violated willingly or knowingly the injunctions thereof, I may (besides incurring constitutional punishment) be subject to the upbraidings of all who are now witnesses of the present solemn ceremony."
WOW...So many Presidents to have to remember, with which speech's they gave!! I am sure that a tad of all will do this Great County of Ours some Good if it is followed through...But like some Presidents we have come across in this Great Country...It remains to be seen!! May God have mercy on us All if we made another bad choice!!
And by the way, why we are on the subject of Goverment...I honestly believe that if the Goverment wants to take religion out of our Goverment then they must work on Christmas and Easter vacations and Sundays for these are religious holidays...Doesn't sound so appealing now, does it!!??!!
Anytime we have a new President the euphoria comes back, that these new days will be better than the last. We really don't know until years after the President has been out of office. I respect the President elect and i respect the Office of the President. i truly hope he succeeds in somehow getting this country through the crisis' we are facing.
OK, The man can talk the talk, let's see him walk the walk. YES?
FDR Hands down. If he were not our greatest president of all time, then our country would not have endured. Most people alive today do not realize how brilliant he was. He really became president at the best time in history. If you were not there, you'll never know what a great man FDR was.
Van, you make some excellent points! I am a huge history buff, and FDR/ER are the two people I have admired the most. If it weren't for his courage and farsightedness in pushing through a hostile Congress bills that sounded like alphabet soup, this country might very well have totally collasped. Projects like the CCC, TVA and WPA put the people of this country back to work, provided support to the financial industry by getting banks back on their feet, and strengthened the belief in government. FDR was the greatest president this country has ever seen, before or since.
Reagan ... A true american and conservative. He got it .... Obama is the exact polar opposet of Reagan. He does'nt get it and never will
Standing in total disbelief those many people numbering nearing two million, braving the below freezing weather to hear the finest inaugural speech ever as it related to the most serious matters concerning Americans ever, surly cannot be second to any.
Spell American AmerICAN We Will, We have to, Now what a great start we have with our Brilliant new President Obama. He needs our Prayers!!
I agree. Obama's speech was the best. He covered all areas, all cultures. Great!
I voted for the man who had integrity and character. That man is John McCain, the one man history will proclaim as the most qualified candidate who never got elected...at least not yet. McCain in 2012!!!!!
We all will decide on our own - but since knowledge is power, I am passing this along...
A question of perspective :
Obama/Biden v.s. McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?... think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?
Ponder the following:
·What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three-month-old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
·What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
·What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
·What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
·What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
·What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
·What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
·What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
·What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)
·What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
·What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?
·What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashi ng seven planes?
·What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?
·What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?
·What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?
·You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Education isn't everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. You make the call.
What if the release of a terrorist from Guantanomo Bay kills a US Marine or bombs a major American city?
What happens if gays are allowed in the military?
What happens if tax cheats (Rangel), or the next Treasury Secretary, set an example for the rest of us to follow, and we follow it?
What happens to scams in the real estate market (Reid) (Pelosi) (Feinstein) that are not punished?
What about gay sex parlors in basements (Frank)?
What happens when foreign money is given to a Sec of State's husband? (Clinton)
Education isn't everything, but governance is only about reason and virtue. These people are no smarter than the rest of us, in fact, I contend less. And virtue is non-existent.
While your article is compelling, McCain was not nominated by a majority of Republicans. The left helped. So did the media. Then, naturally, they turned. McCain is the least of those who deserved the nomination. The very least.
I did make the call.
PS. Mr. President, you have my support when you are right. You will always have my prayers......
There are many very well-educated idiots. Just because one scored well on college tests does not mean that he really knows HOW to get things done. Look at Bush II. He was extremely well educated...Yale and Harvard MBA and still screwed the pooch!!!
If we follow what Kennedy said, then we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. Too many are looking for Obama to hand them a check for nothing in return. Too many are sitting around looking for the govenment to help them, when they need to get off the butts and work or do something for their country and community.
As a Republican, I don't agree with many of Obama's policies. However, he is a very good public speaker and this speak was well delivered. To say he scored an A, though, is absurd since there were no real memorable lines in this speech, unlike JFK, Lincoln, Jefferson and other past greats speeches. This speech will be forgotten, like so many inaugural speeches, in days to come. Good Luck, President Obama! I pray for wisdom and clear thinking for you in this difficult task you have.
Obama how ever is a liar!
Lied right to McCains face
and a man is only as good as his word!
I voted for the man that had integrity and character. That man is John McCain, the man history will proclaim as the most qualified candidate who never got elected ...at least not yet. McCain in 2012
